spacer Pleanty of Tench but no Crucians - Duncan Charman   5 JUNE 2010

Having two weddings on the weekend, a bank holiday and another wedding booked in for Friday l cant see that their will be much fishing to be had, although l must get my angling weekly fix, so Wednesday nights a definite.

Unfortunately the winds on the change and coincided with my visit to the bream providing gravel pit that I’ve been enjoying of late. On arrival the wind was still pushing into the northeast corner so it was back into the same swim, which amazingly was vacant again, however at dusk it all changed and the drift on the surface indicated an easterly wasn’t far off and as expected by morning it was blowing in the opposite direction. I did manage three carp though, a mid double just an hour in, which raised my hopes plus two tiny commons that were no more than a pound apiece! The liners were non-existent, as were the bream in showing themselves and although they may well have moved on the wind, my feelings are that they have headed for their spawning grounds.

Having done so well in such a short period of time and knowing that l will almost certainly be the only bream angler on the lake next year l feel its time to move on but what will l do now. Well with Frensham Great opening on the glorious 15th l will certainly head here for a few sessions before my holiday to Cuba, however before this it’s going to be a bit of crucian fishing.

Thursday l decided as l had a few hours to head towards Marsh Farm, however after the tenth tench dropped into the net in just two hours, after dark, it was obvious the crucians weren’t having it and l was home before midnight.

Friday l was back and decided to head for the opposite end of the lake, however in less than two hours another ten tench graced my net but sadly no crucians.
