After having a good couple of weeks on the River Loddon I was understandably keen to get back. Late Saturday afternoon I arrived to find only one other angler in attendance.

The river looked perfect after the recent rainfall and carrying about a foot of extra water. With a mild evening forecast I was confident of some action.
I arrived at the same swim that I had fished last week and deposited a mixture of Super Scent Hemp and 4mm halibut pellets into a run. I let the bait work its magic and just on dusk some three hours later decided to introduce a rig. After a few line bites as the fish worked their way across the feed 20 minutes after casting the tip went over and I was soon netting a chub weighing 5lb 10oz.
I swung the rig back out onto the feed and it wasn’t long before my next bite, which nearly took the rod off the rests. After a good scrap I initially thought I was connected to a small barbel until a good sized chub rolled on the surface and was quickly bundled into the net. I was soon holding a nice plump specimen weighing 6lb 5oz.
Pleased with the events so far I was still confident of some further action. Forty minutes later and I was not disappointed as the rod shot round and a barbel was hooked. After a good scrap a fish weighing 10lb 3oz was placed on the mat. I lost another fish when the hook pulled seconds after a good bite. However, my disappointment was short lived as another two barbel weighing 9lb 6oz and 11lb 8oz where held aloft for the camera. My first brace of doubles.
I packed up a happy but tired angler. With more mild temperatures forecast for the last few days of the season I cant wait to get back.
