To say I’m glad to see the back of August would be an understatement as it’s been a tough month. Now that September is with us the night temperatures should start to fall away which in turn will spur the fish into feeding as they prepare for the colder months to come.

On Monday evening l decided to take another look at Cemex, Summer Pit in the hope of cracking this tough venue and returned home after a four-hour session feeling that l'd done just that. Taking some advise from Alan Stagg and adding it too the odd frustrating after dark crucian session last summer managed to take six crucians between 1lns 10oz and 2lbs 5oz. All the fish came to float fishing tactics right in the margins using Sonubaits Green Supercush paste pellets of S-Pellets over a bed of Supercrush Green Groundbait.
Tuesday l headed for the Wey at Addlestone and caught lots of small chub and dace on the stick float and maggot but the bonus fish l was looking for didn’t show.
Thursday l headed north to the mighty river Trent, a learning curve to say the least and an eye opener to fishing fast, powerful rivers. Two modest chub fell during the night, however a powerful fish cut me off which would have made the trip. My results were a little disappointing as, as darkness fell plenty of fish were showing, some being barbel. The two chub fell to two 13mm Sonubaits hard pellets over plenty of Hemp & Hali Crush and the lost fish took a Sonubaits 20mm boilie that I’ve started to try out.
