Friday it was time to head back to the superbly run MBK Leisure, Baron’s Pond in Liss to produce a feature for TCF. Last year around the same time I spent a day here for another magazine and caught 30lb of quality roach, up in the water on the pole, but amazingly the publication, for some unknown reason, failed to publish it. This visit was equally as rewarding and in just three hours fishing managed a good 25lb of perch and roach to 1lb 9oz. The tactics were the same, however this time the water temperature was far lower but still the lake responded to a constant dribble of casters. If any one wants a fantastic days roach fishing then the small lake on the complex is as good as it gets, head for the swims near the outlet.
Overnight the temperature dropped away to minus five and an early morning walk around Frensham Great Pond proved just how cold the lakes are as amazingly most of it was frozen, so my plans for the week ahead are really in the hands of the weather.
