As Duncan Charman stated in his latest blog, the last month has seen us team up targeting a big pit in search of monster Tench. Well I have had little to report up until now.

Possibly starting a little early the deep water has taken a while to warm than first thought. A lot was learned during this spell of inactivity, which will hopefully pay dividends in the next couple of months. I have been baiting an area of the lake regularly with Hemp & Hali Crush mixed with hemp, maggots and casters.
My first 10 nights on the water produced very little in the way of action, but I was confident regular pre baiting would encourage the fish to visit the area.
My last trip over the bank holiday weekend was to bring the first spell of action. I had felt close on several occasions and I brought my first fish over the net on Sunday evening. A lot smaller than expected but a very welcome Tench weighing 5lb 14oz. I was pleased I was off the mark at and confident of some further action. I wasn’t disappointed when in the early hours of Monday morning I received my second bite and landed a fish smaller than the first weighing 4lb 12oz. I don’t think I was alone in expecting fish of this size and I hoped a bigger fish would put in an appearance. Shortly after the same rod signaled a further bite and a better fish weighing 7lb 0oz was soon being photographed.
Over the next month I hope a concentrated campaign may lead to one or two of the bigger fish we are both hoping for.
