I have been fishing a series of matches at Gold Valley and recently won one with 113lb of skimmers and bream on the pole in a five-hour contest. A feeding ploy I used will work superbly well with Sonu Baits' F1 groundbait and I'd like to explain my thinking.
A lot of anglers traditionally mix casters and chopped worm into their groundbait mix and then cup it into the peg.
I think this creates a problem in that the casters and worms become concentrated in too small an area, which means you end up with a lot of fish on top of one another, leading to line bites on pole tackle, and foul-hooked fish.
The way I feed has, I think, helped me to sort this problem out. I will chop up 100ml of dendrabenas, into fine but not too fine pieces, and add a similar amount of casters. I then create a golf ball-sized ball of groundbait - Sonu's F1 mix on waters where it is allowed - and pop this in the cupping kit on top of the chopped worm and caster mix.
What happens is that the casters and worms spread out over a bigger area because they are introduced loose, but the groundbait forces the fish down to the bottom.
So in essence you end up with a bigger grazing area with the fish sensibly spread out, but you have the fish where you want them, on the deck, feeding on the bottom.
At Gold Valley on the matches John Raison is running, only standard crumb is allowed, and I want to make this clear.
But on venues where anything goes groundbait-wise, Sonu Baits' F1 will do the business because of its superb mix of fishmeal and a sweet, brasemy additive.
Try my feeding trick - you'll see your results improve no end!
