Sunday – With Chris Ponsford coming down for another two night bream session, Sunday afternoon was spent getting everything ready for the session.
Monday – Arriving at the venue mid afternoon we were left to head for cover due to an ever increasing south west wind. The swims were the same as we fished the last time we met up only this time Chris fished in the one l did that produced eight doubles and l dropped into his, a swim l had blanked in a few days before. Learning from my previous mistakes l found a clear spot at seventy yards and placed fifty balls of groundbait over the top along my rigs. That evening produced just one bream each, Chris taking one of 10lb 14oz, however my swim was producing plenty of liners and l drifted of hoping that they would get their heads down.
Tuesday – 1am and a screamer develops which produces a common of 26lb 9oz which seems to kick start my swim as from then on it was action all the way and come 6pm l had taken a total of twenty-one fish, seven carp, mostly mid to upper doubles along with a 19lb 15oz mirror, the rest were bream including fish of 11lb 6oz, 11lb, 10lb 10oz, 10lb 9oz and 10lb 2oz. I decided not to put any bait out that evening and help get ‘The Pons’ swim going and come midnight he was bagging up with bream, the best 10lb 12oz, myself taking just two fish.
Wednesdays – With Chris catching l decided to send out around twenty balls of groundbait at 1am and soon the liners started with a further six bream falling at first light, the best 11lb 7oz. By this time though Chris’s swim had died with just one more bream coming in the early hours. In total we landed seven carp, thirty four bream (eight doubles) and one perch of 2lb 8oz, not a bad session!
Thursday – My first guiding trip to Harris Lake on the Marsh Farm complex saw regular Mel Smethurst land a total of twenty fish in less than six hours which included a personal best crucian of exactly 3lb. Mel used scaled down bolt rigs and presented 6mm Sonubaits Tiger Fish hooker pellets over Supercrush Green.
Friday – With the weather so cold and my shoulder giving myself problems l have decided that a lay off from fishing is needed. The continued casting of method balls, sling shotting and cold nights spent sleeping on a bed chair this month has taken its toll, however l need to catch up on some fishing related paperwork. I’m also going to teach myself how to create short fishing video shows for Anglers Mail as well as learning how to use In Design and broaden my knowledge of Photoshop so it looks like a lot of office hours for me for the next few months.
Saturday – Knowing that the bream have spawned its time to look at other species and one on my hit list over the summer will be tench, so with a syndicate lake close to my home, known for its massive carp, l decided to have a stroll around this to familiarise myself with the place, so that when l do find myself on the bank l will pretty much know where to head.
