The season is well under way, so I decided to visit a new venue that I joined this year. The lake is near the new forest, about 60 acres in size and holds some very big carp.

While walking around the venue it became clear that none of regulars wanted to tell me anything. But after a couple of laps I was fortunate enough to see a few fish show and lucky for me all the other anglers were on the far bank.
After dragging the gear from the car to the swim I unfolded the marker rod and had a few casts. Although quite weedy, there were plenty of clearer areas that were more than tempting to place a bait and with a minimum amount of disturbance got two rods out with around a kilo of boilies and Hemp & Hali Crush over each of them.
I sat back and watched the water for a bit before putting up the brolly, and as I was doing so I heard a snap as the line was pulled from the line clip. I looked up to see the rod bent to the right and line being ripped off the spool. I ran down and struck into it. It felt a good fish as it took 20 yards or so of line off the spool on its first run before making it in to a weed bed, after a little persuasion it came out and 4 or 5 minutes later was in the net. She went 32lb.6oz on the scales.
Over the next 3 nights I managed to bag another 4 fish these were 18lb.8oz, 27lb.10oz, 28lb.4oz and 28lb.8oz.
Why can’t it always be like this? Keep at it,
