spacer Sonu S Pellets And A Monks Lakes Festival Win - Geoff Vallance   5 OCTOBER 2011
spacer spacer spacer

I won the recent Monks Lakes two-day festival on Bridges Lake on September 12 and 13 - and Sonu’s brilliant 2mm S Pellets were instrumental in the victory which brought a £400 pay day.

On Day One I caught 49lb of skimmers on the Method feeder. I used Sonu Match Method Mix with a smattering of soaked 2mm S Pellets mixed in.
On my Preston PR36 hook I hair-rigged a 6mm white boilie and I caught 25 skimmers and two tench, casting 30 metres out into a nice six or seven feet of water.

The weight put me second overall after day one, so I was looking forward to day two and another reasonable weight, despite the gale-force winds which made presentation difficult.

On Day Two I concentrated on the pole and managed to winkle out 41 slightly smaller skimmers. This weight gave me third overall on the day but my aggregate weight of 90lb was enough to clinch the festival.

On the decisive second day I drew a completely different peg and I had only two-and-a-half to three feet of water in front of me as far as I could cast.

I picked a line at 35 yards and cast out the Method feeder, using the same tactics as the day before, but after three casts, which brought two skimmers and then being smashed off by a carp, I threw the feeder rod up the bank as carp don’t count in these matches and I figured there may be one or two out there!

Instead I decided to concentrate solely on the pole line where I potted in the wonderful Sonu 2mm S Pellets and just fished a 4mm Sonu Fin Perfect expander on the hook.

I used a Preston PR21 hook in a size 16 with the expanders on the hook and I used a soft Preston Innovations Original Slip yellow number six elastic through the top two of my pole. The main line was 0.13 Powerline to a 0.10mm hooklength of the same material. Because it was windy I fished with a 4 x 16 float with a simple bulk several inches from the hook.

It was a very satisfying result given the terrible conditions and I really rate the S Pellets which have a slightly higher fish oil content tahn the extremely popular fin Perfect feed pellets - and bream seem to love them too. If you haven't tried Sonu's S Pellets, maybe now is the time to give them a try-out. They're fantastic.
