Recently I have been experimenting with different hook-baits while pellets fishing. I have found that where carp over 2lb are the target, regular feeding of Sonu BAits' 6mm Fin Perfect pellets is drawing many fish into my peg.
As a match angler, however, I am continuously looking to catch fish quickly, so although I could catch steadily I began to experiment with different hook-baits in order to increase my catch.
The rig used for this type of fishing incorporates 0.15mm Preston Powerline and a PB13 float. This float incorporates a buoyant high-viz bristle, essential for reading bites correctly.
Both 6mm and 8mm hard pellets attached to a hair-rig on a PR36 hook produced a steady stream of fish, but I was still waiting up to 15 minutes to catch a fish.
The real breakthrough came by changing to the new Sonu White Fish Paste Pellets. It has already been proven that other types of paste pellets work well.
However, I am convinced that the light colour against the dark, silty bottom allowed fish to pick them out quicker than a standard pellet.
This change of bait definitely increased my catch rate when fishing in this style, and in a recent round of the UK Championships, helped me to a lake second and 5th in the match.
This catch went 92lb 10oz, with one specimen of 18lb 1oz, taken on the white paste pellet in the catch.
Try them for yourself - they work very well.
