Seeing some fish cruising on a warm afternoon is always a sign to get the floater gear out. The bait which I use for surface fishing is Oily Floaters, with them being heavier than normal floating pellets or dog biscuits they can be catapulted further and they have the ideal texture to hair rig. I like to catapult them out past the fish and let them drift over the fish in the breeze. Because they are impregnated with oil this will pass over the fish first and is enough to get them interested before the pellets arrive. Firing our a few 11mm mixed in with the 8mm got the fish on top and slurping and as soon as they build confidence they are more likely to make a mistake and take a hookbait. Again I prefer to cast past the fish and let the hookbait drift back towards them as they are less likely to spook.
Both of these fish were caught from an old park lake within weeks of each other using Oily Floaters and letting the fish build confidence before fishing for them.
