Last time out for my one tin carping I was using the Hemp n Maples, this time it’s the Hemp n Tigers.

Tigers when allowed by your fishery rules do make a superb carp bait, some would say it’s the most successful big carp bait of all time. Tigers or “growlers” as they are often referred did receive a bit of bad press back in the 90s, this was mainly due to them not being prepared correctly. If in any doubt leave it to the professionals such as Sonubaits, you know when you crack open a tin of Sonubaits Hemp n Tigers that every particle has been cooked to perfection. Hemp n Tigers, the combination really is an all time classic. Over my 20 odd years of carping I must have caught hundreds on the little crunchy nuts. I first started using them on a water that had a massive Bream population, whilst I wouldn’t say you will never catch a silver fish on them by their very hard crunchy nature they do tend to be a favourite of carp as they have the ability to crush and digest them.
When im particle fishing I do prefer to fish with a mono or fluorocarbon hooklink, but slightly different to most who will tie a knotless knot I do like a more natural hair so whip on a hair braid and hold the hair in place with either a small piece of silicone or as on this occasion a hook bead. A blob of putty to keep the hooklink down and you are set. I like to balance the Tiger with this rig so drill a hole through the nut and plug it with cork, depending on the size of nut a 6 or 8mm drill will do the trick.
Its not necessary to bait heavily with Tigers, in fact I would say less is more, half a tin is more than enough to keep a few big carp routing about in your swim for hours. Iv watched carp come back to margin spots several times during the day for a quick mouthful, they always seem to find a few grains no matter how many times they re visit your spot after just one baiting.
This weekend I've managed to stalk this nice 22lb common from one of several margin spots that I had baited with just a handful of Hemp n Tigers. To make my hookbait stand out from the crowd on this occasion I used a black Tigernut.
