My team, Preston Innovations Delcac, have just qualified for the Angling Times Team Championship Final, by winning on the day in our southern semi-final at Kent’s Monk Lakes.
While I didn’t win anything individually, I managed to finish halfway in my section with 16lb, comprising a 5lb carp, three skimmers of around a pound each, plus 8lb of chublets.
The skimmers and the carp all came to a small piece of sweetcorn, hair-rigged on a size 18 Preston PR36 hook, fished in conjunction with a small cage feeder an inch long, packed with a mix of Supercrush Green and F1 groundbait, with one or two pieces of corn in the feeder.
The depth I was casting into was only four and a half feet, and the Supercrush Green is ideal because it is very active and attracts fish into the swim without actually feeding them. It has a fishmeal aroma, which aids attraction, and the F1 groundbait adds a hint of brasem, so it is a winning combo.
On the day the Supercrush Green did its magic, and I was very relieved when the carp took the bait. The Preston 12ft Super feeder rod, teamed with 6lb Direct Mono, handled the bonus carp very well.
Preston Innovations Thatchers took second place on the day ahead of Dorking, so it was a good day all round for Preston Innovations and Sonu-sponsored teams!
