I have been targeting a large gravel pit which although is sparsely stocked contains some very big fish of all species. Due to the low numbers of fish they can be very tricky to locate and catch but because of the low stocks and the gin clear water there is an abundance of natural food for them to gorge on which means they can grow to be true specimens. Since April I have been spending a lot of my time at the gravel pit and have managed to target two personal best fish.
Firstly a new PB Perch of 3lb 14oz that came on just my second session and was caught at the bottom of the marginal shelf using the old favourite lob worm fished over a bed of Silvercrush match.
My second PB was a much sort after double figure Tench that weighed 10lb 2oz. This fish was caught using a small 12mm boilie over a bed of Hemp ‘N’ Maples straight out of the tin and a bag of 4mm S-Pellet Feed. This tactic has accounted for loads of Bream up to 9lb 14oz as well as the odd smaller Tench. Hopefully before too long I will be able to show you a picture of one of the much larger Bream that live in the pit as well.
