spacer Improvisation With Sonu F1 Groundbait Pays Dividends - Andy Findlay   27 APRIL 2009
spacer spacer spacer

People who know me realise that I like to stick my tried and tested baits - but a hunch I had paid dividends when I used Sonubaits F1 Groundbait in a floating feeder and won my section on a tough match at the Makins complex.

I drew A section on Lake 2 at the Wolvey, Warwickshire complex. In recent weeks anglers had been catching carp by fishing the pellet waggler and catapulting 8mm feed pellets out. This meant the carp had not been coming within pole range and that made sport quite challenging.
On a match in mid-April I decided that I would try something different so I fashioned a home-made floating feeder, utilising a cage feeder with a piece of polystyrene built into it to aid buoyancy.
The rig included a hair-rigged 8mm S Pellet, fished some two feet below the feeder. I had caught several carp on the Method feeder but the peg had gone quiet and although anglers could see fish activity near the surface, not many were being caught which indicated to us that the fish had wised up tothe shallow pellet and waggler approach.
But when I decided to have a go with the floating feeder, the SonubaitsF1 groundbait created a lovely lingering cloud and I caught three carp, all within a minute of the feeder splshing down, and the biggest was around the 9lb mark, with the others both about 7lb.
Some anglers fishing on a lakeabove the one I was on were able to look down and they said they could see what an attractive cloud the Sonubaits F1 groundbait was creating - as their vantage point was several feet above the water.
I am a firm believer that with carp, half of the challenge is to stay one step ahead of the fish. They do wise up very quickly to various approaches and something a little out of the ordinary can outwit them for a while.
The Sonu F1 groundbait does mix very well. It pays to mix it up and then leave it for 15 minutes by which time it will have absorbed all the water and will need to be re-wetted.
Give it a try now the fish are swimming shallow and it could help to put a few more fish in your net.
