I had a busy time when I won the final round of a summer league series at Orchard Place Farm, Paddock Wood, in Kent. 60. In short, I caught 280 F1s for 141lb, two oz, putting me 10lb clear of the next best weight. And I did it using Sonu F1 groundbait as a slop, with a shallow rig using Sonu Fin Perfect hard banded feed pellets, or expanders, on the hook.
I drew peg 2 at the venue, which is always very coloured at this time of year. The swim was seven feet deep but I knew I wanted to catch those F1s shallow, so I mixed up a bowl of Sonu F1 groundbait, to a very sloppy consistency, and set about fishing a banded 6mm Fin Perfect pellet a foot deep, feeding balls of slop at the float.
From the word go I was into fish and after two hours had 120 fish in the net, all small F1s averaging 6oz to 8oz.
The rig, comprising a Preston Innovations Pink in-line dibber, was fished on the top kit plus one section of pole, with a 9H Preston Innovations Hollo elastic in the pole top kit. The rig was dead simple inn that I fished Preston Powerline in .13mm direct.
All the time, while catching so short, I had been flicking a few 4mm Sonu Fin Perfect feed pellets tigjht to an island in front of me at 11 metres.
After two hours, every time I fed the surface was boiling, but my close in line was beginning to show signs of slowing, so I went out to 11 metres with the same rig and caught a fish every drop-in for the rest of the match.
At 11 metres I opted to fish a 4mm Sonu Fin Perfect expander on a Preston PR21 hook, and it worked a treat. I made sure the expanders were not too soft, so that they did not come off the hook straight away.
So, all in all, a verty satisfactory match with the right result, thanks to Sonu F1 Groundbait and the Sonu range of Fin Perfect feed and expander pellets.
