In the latter part of the summer I have been visiting a lot of venues with healthy heads of bream and skimmers - and I have found a mix of SonuBaits' Supercrush Green and P-Mix to be absolutely spot-on.
Both create a strong fishmeal-based feed and I like the ratios to be two thirds Supercrush Green to one third P-Mix.
I have used these groundbaits at venues including Barston, on the Thames and at Sussex venue Weirwood Reservoir - and the results have been terrific. At Weirwood, which is sued for two Superleague rounds, I know that the Preston Innovations Delcac lads have used the same groundbaits and they have taken the place apart.
When it comes to mixing, I like to mix these groundbaits on the bank. The only time I mix a groundbait up the night before a match is when I am knocking up a Method feeder mix.
Quantity-wise, I reckon you need about a kilo-and-a-half of Supercrush Green and P-Mix to see you through a five-hour match.
I like my groundbait mix for feeder fishing for skimmers to be on the dry side, because when you start adding chopped worms, they tend to make the mix a lot mushier because of all the liquid they contain.
I have been using this skimmer and bream mix in conjunction with a new Preston Innovations 12 foot Sentient XL prototype rod, and my favourite hook for skimmers fishing is the Preston PR34.
I use either worm or dead maggots on the hook.
Dead maggots are very effective because the bream don't have to kill them and they are easy for skimmers to suck in.
When a bream sucks the bait in, it then bites down on the bait and, realising something isn't quite right because of the hook, bolts.
So, when the tip goes round, the fish is already hooked. You don't need to strike, simply pick up the rod and wind.
Try the Supercrush/P-Mix recipe for yourself and get into those skimmers and bream this autumn!
