spacer The Banded Pellet And the Preston Quick Release Method Mould - Emma Pickering   27 NOVEMBER 2008
spacer spacer spacer

Although winter is now here, it is still possible to catch a few fish on the Method feeder, using Sonu Fin Perfect hard feed pellets on the hook - venue permitting, of course!

And despite a heavy overnight storm and air temperatures not rising above two degrees Celsius, I caught a few carp on an open at Lindholme Lakes last weekend, putting Sonu Fin Perfect pellets to great use for the hook only.

At Lindholme you have to use the fishery's own pellets for feeding, but for readers who may not have cottoned on yet, there are now 1mm feed pellets in the Sonu Fin Perfect range, and if your club water allows you to use whatever you want, I'd suggest you damp some down and try pressing these onto a small Method feeder. It works.

Getting back to Lindholme, I used a 6mm Fin Perfect hard pellet, banded, on a hair-rigged size 18 PR36.
There are currently two weight sizes of the new Preston in-line Method feeder, 15g and 30g, and I set up two rods, one with each weight-size feeder attached. Interestingly, I caught all my fish on the 15g version and I can only guess that the fish came to it because it made less noise when it went into the water.

I also used the new Preston quick release Method feeder mould, pressing the micro feed pellets into this, and then applying a  second skin of these small pellets after I had laid my three-inch hook-length with banded 6mm pellet into the mould.

The mould works very well because it has a finely textured surface, which stops the pellets or groundbait from sticking to it. One press of a release button on the back of the mould and hey presto, you are in business with the perfectly shaped, loaded Method feeder.
