I won a match yesterday at Makin's using a hook-bait that contains Sonu Fin Perfect Paste Mix and four tins of ham.
I'm going to talk you through how to make this mix and a rig you can fish it with in shallow water on commercials.
To make the paste, take one bag of my Fin Perfect Paste Mix, tip the lot into a big round plastic bowl and then open four tins of Ye Olde Oak tinned ham and press these through a maggot riddle. Add this to the paste mix and start to add water until the whole mix becomes very sloppy. After a few minutes it will start to firm up but you want the paste to stay sloppy. At this point add a half a tin of the new Sonu Super Scent cooked hemp,to make the paste heavier.
The rig is simple enough. When targeting better carp, up to 8lb, I like to use the Preston 17H Hollo elastic. The rig comprises 0.17 Preston Powerline direct to a size 10 Korum S3 hook. This may seem big but you need adecent sized lump of paste for it to stay on the hook.
I also use a Korum blob as the float and on the peg I fished yesterday, which was only 14 inches deep, I found a clear hole in some far bank rushes which I could reach with 15 metrtes of pole.
To position the paste, I shipped it out in a feed pot on my pole, having put some hemp and corn in the pot before putting my paste hook-bait on top.
Bites are easy to spot. The blob will start to bob up and down and then move sideways across the top. A firm but gentle lift is all that is needed to set the hook. I also used a Preston Pullakit and this enabled me to deal with hooked fish much more quickly than had I fished with a conventional elaastic set-up.
Fishing big lumps of paste in this way is a method that requires rhythm. You need to keep feeding the peg but get it right and it can be deadly.
I had a lovely day's fishing to win the match with 121lb.
Try my meaty paste mix - it brings results!
