I’ve just won a match at Lakeview Fishery with 130lb of carp and qualified for the £3000 final. In the match I was catching carp steadily fishing shallow, with a banded 6mm pellet, but with an hour to go I could hear anglers round the lake were catching faster than me. Lakeview is full of small 1-2lb carp, if you fall behind it is hard to catch up, so I knew I had to find some better fish. I had been feeding my margin line with 4mm pellets, with plans to fish paste over the top. On my first drop in with one to one paste I caught a 5lb carp, so for the last hour I stuck with this line, using paste to deal with the bigger fish. This change in tactics allowed me to win the match, but I later realised I couldn’t fish in the final because I will be at Whiteacres (never mind, the guy that came second was pleased). I strongly recommend one to one paste, as it’s really easy to mix, is available in natural and green and you get a free paste pot with every bag.
