spacer 100lb of fish - Duncan Charman   14 APRIL 2011

Monday – I just had to return for another bream session. The wind unfortunately had increased and l had to drop into a swim that I’d never fished before, however the ‘Balls Out’ Bait Launcher deposited sixty balls of ground bait out, around sixty yards and tried and tested rigs containing sweetcorn stacks were then dropped over the top. The evening feeding spell commenced, however the five bream that l did land were all from, what l call the silver shoal, ones that average around 8lb.

Tuesday –  Up and away early l spent the day organising paperwork, writing some ‘User Reports for Anglers Mail as well as completing an ‘Action Replay’ article, before getting my pole tackle sorted out for a days guiding on Wednesday with one of my regulars who wanted to catch a personal best silver bream and crucian carp.

Wednesdays – Meeting Mel at 5am we travelled down to Bury in West Sussex for the 6am opening, but not before having to scrap the car window from the early morning frost! Even after a frost and with a easterly wind and high pressure, this venue will still provide a good days sport and by the time we called it a day at 3pm, Mel had caught numerous fish including a best silver bream of 1lb 6oz and crucians to 1lb 9oz. Unfortunately thou, the venue seems to be stuffed full of small silvers around 4-6oz and getting through to the bigger ones seemed almost impossible.

Thursday – Having a TCF feature booked in at Marsh Farm on Friday, myself and Alan Stagg decided to fish the night. The temperature dropped and the north east wind remained making the fishing difficult for crucians, however the feature was for tench and these duly obliged. With the swims primed and plenty of tench along with around a dozen crucians apiece we decided to get an early start for the feature.

Friday - The alarm called us at 4am and come 8pm we had managed numerous tench, my best going 6lb 15oz and the odd crucian to exactly 3lb. The feature’s going to be probably the best we’ve done yet so look out for this in the July issue of Total Coarse Fishing. All in all we estimated that we took around a 100lb during our stay.
