First we match anglers caught fish up in the water on banded pellets - and now I'm catching a lot of fish on the deck using the same approach, using Sonubaits Fin Perfect Feed Pellets in my game plan.
I've had quite a bit of success this summer at Orcherton Fishery near Chorley, catching fish shallow and on the deck.
I am using the new small Preston bait bands and I am hair-rigging the feed pellets pellets in the band, and feeding the same with the catapult or through a feed pot.
The hook of choice is the fantastic Preston PR36, which has an offset eye, which means better self-hooking and penetration - it isn't just a hook for Method feeder fishing!
I start off by taking a length of Preston Power Line and tying the band on to an end.
I then tie the knotless knot, with the hair of a length which means then attached pellet sits just below the bend of the hook.
A typical set-up for the banded pellet approach on the deck will see me using floats such as the Preston Innovations Des Shipp PB Inter range, or the Preston Green range. The green range, in particular, works well when fishing in several feet of water.
I will position a bulk of number nine shots some two and a half feet from the hook, with one number 10 dropper shot a foot or so from the hook - simple enough.
When targeting carp in the 2-5lb bracket I am happy using a Preston 11H hollow elastic, but I do use a Pulla Kit, which speeds up the playing and landing process significantly.
Because you are hair-rigging the pellet, plumbed so that it just touches bottom, you often see a bite and before you know it the elastic is out of the tip without you even having to strike.
Give this style of presentation a try - it works very well and it could benefit your own angling and match success.
