spacer Bream Blog - Paul Billington   17 APRIL 2009

Conditions were not exactly favourable on arrival at the lake, ground frost followed by bright sunshine – not very good bream weather. A chat to an angler just leaving confirmed this as he had just done three nights for nothing. I moved into his swim but did not hold out much hope of doing well.

I watched the water for a while before tackling up and noticed that the other angler had fished very short by the amount of waterfowl diving on his baited areas, not really ideal for bream so early on in the season.

I opted to fish an area about 80yds out in 12ft of water and decided to keep the bait to a minimum, as the lake appeared to be fishing slowly. A dozen spods of mixed pellet were spoded out and tutti fruity boosted wraps were fished over the area with small pva sticks.

My first run came at 3am which was a small male tench and this was followed at 5am by my first bream of the season- that proved to be the only action off the baited area.

About 10am a few fish started to roll slightly further out so I decided to put a bait to them, this would normally spook bream but it had to be worth a try. I cast out a boosted wrap hookbait with a tiny pva bag of crushed wraps and sure enough the bream stopped rolling. I thought I had blown my chance but after 30 minutes the alarm sounded and shortly after my second double figure bream was in the net.

For the conditions I was fishing in I was more than happy and yet again the boosted wraps proved themselves to be one of the finest bream boilies available.
