Its been a long time since I have had the chance to visit France for a fishing holiday so I was looking forward to spending a week down in the Berne region at Rock Lakes.
The venue holds carp to low fourties and cat fish to a massive one hundred and eighty pounds. I was told that the cats will eat anything so to minimise the amount of them i hooked I planned to bait up with the tins of hemp and maize. I would then fish just maize over the top, this hopefully would allow the carp chance to get in to the feed before the monster moggies moved in. In the end I took a mixture of all three sizes of maize along with tigers, tares and sweet corn. However I soon switched over to fishing boilies over the top of the particles because I wasn't getting any action at all and Chris Maltby had a couple of fish on boilies.
Through out the week I landed ten carp including eight twenties and a common of thirty three pounds and tweleve ounce but on the cat front I landed twelve including a total zoo creature of one hundred and fourty pounds.
I had a great time fishing at Rock lakes but the weather could have been kinder. The last night was spent in shorts and flip flops along with a water proof coat as I played a sixty five pound cat in the pouring rain.
