Sunday afternoon saw me visit the Split Lake at Yateley with catfish in mind. I had done a couple of overnight sessions the week before and the venue had been extremely busy.

On more than one occasion I had to turn round and go home due to the lack of swims available. I hoped arriving on Sunday everyone would be packing up after the weekend rush and I would be able to slot into one of the better swims and so it proved. Setting up in my favourite swim I soon had two rods cast out with a good scattering of a new Sonubaits prototype boilie over each area. The day soon turned into night and in the early hours of the morning I awoke to a screaming take. Picking up the rod I knew a catfish was responsible as over 60 yards of line left my spool. After an excellent fight I was soon netting a cat, which weighed 31lbs. I packed up early Monday morning and headed to work.
The weather looked favorable for the bank holiday weekend and knowing most lakes would be very busy I headed to the bream lake as I hoped the cooler weather would encourage the bream to feed. Arriving at the venue conditions looked spot on and I soon had a marker popped up on a favourable area. I mixed up a big bowl of ground bait containing a 50:50 mix of Hemp and Hali Crush and Super Carp Method mix. To this I added a tin of Maize N Corn, crushed halibut pellets and both 6mm and 8mm halibut pellets. Forty balls were deposited out to the area and I soon had two rods positioned over the top of the feed. Line bites started in the early hours of the morning and I received two bites accounting for bream weighing 10lb 8oz and 10lb 14oz, which made a lovely brace. Both fish fell to the new prototype boilie showing its effectiveness for all species.
