I have had some success down in Cornwall on the early autumn festivals using Sonubaits’ F1 groundbait for my feeder work and for cupping in on the pole.
On the Maver Festival I won my section on Porth reservoir by catching skimmers on the pole, waggler and feeder with a weight of 14lb 15oz.
I then went one better by winning a match on Porth the following week with 21lb 6oz – again using F1 groundbait.
When mixing it for the feeder I like it to be a dryish mix. I use this same mix to catapult out small balls when waggler fishing. The groundbait just wants to have enough binding power to hold together as it is fired out, and then it breaks up, creating an attractive cloud, on the way down through the water column.
For the pole I like to mix it slightly wetter, as it needs to be able to carry quite a good proportion of chopped worm.
I cup half-a-dozen Satsuma-sized balls of F1 Groundbait in at the start of a match and then top up with one further ball every half-hour.
Skimmers really love it because it offers fishmeal and a sweet taste, too.
If you target skimmer waters, try the F1 groundbait. It really goes down a treat.
