I have been trying some brand new, off-the-shelf hookable pellets from Sonu, called Soft Hookers, that are due in the shops either next March or April. And the great news is that they are very easy to use and the fish love them.
The pellets will simply be branded as 'Soft Hookers', and will be available in tubs in 4mm, 6mm and 8mm sizes.
The boffins at the Sonu bait factory decided to have a look at soft hookers because, after tests, they realised that all the other brands currently on the market were made using a preservative which results in a bitter taste. Fish aren't stupid, they can sense this and they will not take them as readily as a natural fishmeal pellet which has been pumped.
The trouble for many anglers, though, is that it seems very difficult to keep soft hooker pellets where they belong - on the hook - until a fish is hooked.
But the Sonu Soft Hookers overcome this problem because the scientists at Sonu have created a pellet which is soft yet robust.
Meanwhile, I can't divulge the ingredients which enable the angler to fish with it with confidence that it remains on the hook. No, these little details have to stay a trade secret! Joking apart, I have been using the Sonu Soft Hookers recently to catch a lot of F1s and small carp at venues such as Lindholme Lakes - and I can guarantee that they will go down a storm with pleasure anglers and match anglers alike when they are unleashed on the angling public next spring. Watch this space and remember the name - Sonu Soft Hookers - they are the way forward!
