spacer Stafford Moor Sonu F1 Feed Pellets Victory Nets Me Place in Big £50K Final - Des Shipp   12 APRIL 2011
spacer spacer spacer

I’ve just pulled off a Stafford Moor match win which has earned me the chance to fish for a £50,000 winner-takes-all prize at Larford - and 4mm and 6mm Sonu F1 Feed Pellets, presented in a PVA bag, did all the damage.

I’d drawn one peg out of a corner and it was windy which meant fishing the pole or the waggler was out. The far bank, some 45 yards away, was calm though, and I fancied ambushing a few carp as they patrolled along that far bank.

I set up an 11-foot Preston Mini Carp rod and cast tight across, into 18 inches of water.

The plan worked like a charm and I ended up with 26 carp, up to 12lb, for my 170lb winning weight.

Those new Sonu F1 Feed pellets have that lovely sweet brasem-like smell that F1 groundbait features, and we all know that carp adore it.

The rig was simple, a small PVA bag, with the hook nicked into the bag. I used a small Preston Cadpot to accurately measure amounts of pellets. I reckon that a capful of 6mm pellets means around 30 pellets while using 4mm pellets, a capful constitutes approximately 50 pellets.

I fished a running bomb with 6lb reel line tied to a 0.17mm Preston Power hooklength, with a hair-rigged band on a Preston PR38 hook in a size 14, with an 8mm Fin Perfect Feed Pellet.

I had the far bank all to myself because the regulars at Stafford Moor tend to shun the PVA bag, instead casting a bomb and loosefeeding pellets over the top, without ever targeting the far bank.

The victory sets me up nicely for that big Maver Match This final at Larford on August 20th. I’ll keep you posted on how that goes at the time.
