Working away gave me the chance of a short session on the Avon

A "beard" for the beard
After working in Birmingham for the day I decided to visit the Warwickshire Avon for the evening rather than sit in a hotel watching the telly. It,s been four years since I fished the river and when I got there I found things have changed.I picked a swim that had a the main flow on the far bank. This then flowed under a bush with a large raft of rubbish built up on it.One bait was placed well above the raft and the other was fished right on the edge.
Not knowing how many fish could be under the raft I decided to take things easy and just fish pva bags of 4 mm and 8mm Sonu halibut pellets.Using a size 8 Talon tip hook with a short hair I super glued two 8mm pellets on to the hair. These are glued on to the hair by using a small blob of glue on the end of pellet and trapping the hair between the two so it looks like a long cylinder.
After just 20 minutes the bait fished next to the raft pulled down. The fish fought well in the flow and I was chuffed to land a 10lb 10oz fish. Not bad for the second cast in the river for 4 years.
