Preston Innovations Consultant Geoff Vallance fished an open match at Nichols Leisure gravel pit on a very windy, warm day. It looked like a perfect day for the large head of bream in the venue to get their heads down to feed.

The venue has a good head of carp and the long stay carp anglers put a lot of fishmeal pellets and particles in to the lake.

With this in mind Geoff mixed up his favourite commercial venue bream groundbait which consists of Fin Perfect mix 1 and mix 2 in a ratio of 50/50. The mix 1 has a strong fishmeal flavour and because it is fine it breaks down quickly in the water. Perfect for feeder fishing. The mix 2 is more active and helps the mix explode out of the feeder with larger betaine enriched particles for the bream to feast upon. To this Geoff added the new Sonubaits hemp, Sonubaits natural sweetcorn and lots of 2mm and 4mm Fin Perfect feed pellets.

At the start of the match Geoff balled in by hand 7 large balls of Groundbait on a line about 18 metres from the bank. He then loose fed Sweetcorn over this line with a catapult. While this line settled he went out to 40 metres on the feeder and in the first hour managed to catch a few skimmers.

He then returned to the 18 metre line and found the bream had moved in and for the remainder of the match caught bream steadily for a match winning 144lb.

For the 18 metre feeder line Geoff used his Preston sentient 11/13 feeder at the shorter length. This was combined with 5lb Korum line and a medium preston feeder.

A size 14 pr36 hook to 0.15 Powerline completed the set up. Hook bait was a single piece of Sonubaits natural sweetcorn hair rigged to the hook using a korum bait stop.

This is Geoff’s Fourth Ton plus Bream weight of the year from two different match venues using the Fin Perfect mix 1 and mix 2 combination.
