I love method feeder fishing with groundbait and pellets from the Sonubaits range - and there is no doubt that the new Preston Method Mould has helped thousands of anglers to become more proficient at this particular skill.
For the past few seasons a lot of anglers have been soaking micro feed pellets and moulding them into a 'coconut' around a method feeder.
The trouble with the pellet approach, though, is that you get cracks in between the pellets, and this leads to friction when you cast the 'coconut', which, in turn, can mean loss of distance or, more crucially, accuracy.
But I have come up with a solution, and it involves a mix of two-thirds micros and a third groundbait, which is then pressed into the mould and the method feeder pushed into that, with perfect results.
The groundbait fills all those tiny gaps between the pellets and you are left with a tempting, pellet-packed 'coconut' of feed.
I use the Sonubaits Match Method Mix groundbait, and the Sonubaits Fin Perfect 2mm Feed Pellets.
To prepare the pellets I simply open a bag, fill with water to just level with the pellets, and let time do the rest. Within a couple of minutes you have perfect, fluffy feed pellets, which can be transferred to a bait tub.
I also have a groundbait bowl handy on my sidetray and whenever I want to make up a 'coconut', I transfer five handfuls of 2mm feed pellets, and two handfuls of my groundbait mix to the bowl, mix it all together, and then let the Method Mould do the hard work.
Give this idea a try. You'll be more accurate and consistent with your casting distances - and this will bring you more bites and, if you are a match angler, more success.
