Sonu Baits' Mix 1 and P Mix have a lot to answer for - and so does the Super Scent Scopex-boosted sweetcorn!
That's because as I write this, I am still recovering from a mega bagging session at Larford in which myself and partner Steve Mayo won the Maver Pairs title for the second time in three years.
Steve did the business on the Specimen lake with a tidy 43 kilos of carp caught on the big waggler to win his section.
I was pegged on the Match Lake, at the top end opposite the island on the grass bank side - and it was a very windy day.
This ruled out fishing the long pole shallow so I opted for the Method feeder.
I rigged up a Preston C Series 12 foot feeder rod with a Korum elasticated Method feeder. The hooklength was 0.19mm Preston Powerline to a size 14 Preston PR36 hook, incorporating a Korum Quickstop, and the bait was a single piece of Sonu's scopex-flavoured Super Scent corn.
The Method Mix comprised three bags of Fin Perfect Mix 1 to half a bag of P-Mix. I find that these, when mixed together, create a groundbait that binds very well and is perfect for the Method.
The feeder was cast about 35 yards to the island and I set the rod tip fairly slack, watching the line for the plucks that signalled fish pecking at the feeder.
Sometimes the rod would wrap round as a fish hooked itself, but more commonly, because I was fishing tight to the island, the tip would go completely slack.
This would see me lift the rod and wind down to the feeder. If the tip stayed slack I would pick up and wind as it meant a hooked fish was actually swimming towards me, hence the line staying slack.
To cut a long story short, I finished up with 63 kilos of carp to finish on the top three on the lake as well as winning my section, which included the likes of Steve Ringer, Steve Cooke and Chris Vandervleit, to name but three star anglers.
I don't profess to be the greatest Method angler in the country but I like to think that Sonu's range of feeder groundbaits, Mix 1 and P-Mix in particular, contributed a lot to the success of the day!
