With the lakes now thawed it was time to get back to the perch lake in search of more stripey’s.

Armed with a pint of red maggots and 50 lobworms I hoped the water temperature had risen slightly and the perch would be hungry. Arriving at the fishery I was beaten to the area I wanted to fish so I decided to settle for a swim I hadn’t fished before.
A small pole float was positioned over the marginal shelf using Preston’s excellent 17 foot Carbonactive float rod. Feeding regularly with red maggot and chopped worm brought a flurry of bites. Five hours later I hadn’t stopped as perch after perch slid over the net, over 20lbs in all. Eight fish weighed over 2lbs with biggest two weighing 2lb 12oz and 2lb 15oz.
A fun days fishing and using a float made it even more enjoyable.
