On a difficult day when the fish would not give themselves up easily the team came through the semi final at Gold Valley as runners up behind the ever consistent Daiwa Dorking who were helped by their Preston Innovations backed stars Des Shipp and Captain Steve Sanders.

DELCAC Team captain Paul Hamlyn said he was very pleased with the result considering we did not have a very favourable draw which put 3 of our team on very poor pegs indeed. To get in front of local team Milo Borden from that draw was a good result.

We had a couple of guys who made the most of carp pegs in Robbie Deacon and Zac Brown who both came second in their sections. Sean Clifford and Derek Gladwin caught mixed carp and skimmer catches for seconds also.
Ian Dixon turned in a brilliant performance to win Bat lake with some big carp caught down the edge on Sonubaits new 8mm Competition Soft Hooker Pellets.

These great results backed up by the other team members Charlie Lovell, Robbie Taylor, Ben McGrath, Geoff Vallance and Jon Parks saw us safely in to the final again.

The Method on the Carp pegs was to fish the straight lead with small PVA bags of 4mm pellets and either Sonubaits Pineapple sweetcorn or 8mm pellets hair rigged on a size 16 pr36 hook to 0.15 powerline.

The team also fished a skimmer/carp line on all the other pegs. On this line we fished a small cage feeder loaded with Sonubaits S Pellet groundbait and one of the new 8mm Competition Soft Hooker Pellets hair rigged with a Korum bait spike to a size 16pr36 hook. This method provided valuable fish for all the team and the new Hooker Pellets stayed on the hair brilliantly even though some of us had to thump the feeder out 60 metres.

So it’s off to the river Nene in Peterborough for July’s final. It’s just a shame that the Brilliant range of Sonubaits Grounbaits and Hookbaits don’t work on a bloodworm dominated river.

Still the team have got the Superleague final at Barston Lake to look forward to in June when we will definitely be using the full Sonubaits range on the carp and skimmers present, hopefully to good effect.

We will keep you posted on how it goes.
