Regular readers of my blogs will know that I am a fan of the new Sonu Baits F1 Groundbait, which ticks all the boxes, as it has a fishmeal base but a sweetish aroma, which makes it irresistible to carp and bream!
I was in action at the weekend in an international-style match at Barston in which members of the men's, intermediate and senior and veterans teams were mixed up with the England Ladies and the England Carp and Disabled anglers' teams for a match with a difference.
As it turned out, I won the four-hour match we fished, ending up with 24 kilos of skimmers and two carp - and Sonu F1 Groundbait was a crucial factor in my chopped worm and caster attack.
Basically, at the off I put in three tangerine-sized balls of F1 groundbait laced with casters and chopped worm on my 13-metre line. I then potted in regular helpings of choppie and caster, but every 20 minutes or so I would pot in another tangerine-sized ball of F1 Groundbait.
It didn't bother the fish and within minutes of every re-feed the skimmers would be back and the bites would re-commence.
Rig-wise I had an original Preston yellow-coloured 'Slip' elastic through the top three of my pole, with a puller bung, and I fished 0.11mm Power Line to a 0.10mm Powerline hooklength. The float was a 0.6g PB Inter 2, shotted with a bulk of number 9 shot two feet from the hook, with two number nine droppers, the first being directly above my six-inch-long hooklength. The hook was a Preston PR32 in a size 16, with double red maggot the best bait. I also put some soaked 2mm Fin Perfect micro pellets into the groundbait mix and these help to keep the fish rooting about in your peg.
What I really like about the F1 Groundbait is that you can mix it light and dry or you can keep adding water to make it a stickier 'carrier' groundbait. The hint of brasem flavour works a treat for carp and bream and I've had great results since the winter when I started using it.
It comes in two kilo bags, so there's more than enough for a match in one bag. why not try it out - you will get results with it on the right peg.
