Sunday – I don’t normally fish on Sundays, yet should do more, especially when the girlfriends on call, so made a date to head to the coast with my mate Steve for some more mullet fishing. It was a glorious morning and we soon found plenty of mullet in a small marina. Steve let me have first go and finally one accepted my bait, a golden grey of 1lb 7oz which was great fun playing on a Korum float rod. We then tried other spots, one where we found some massive fish approaching double figures but they were certainly wiser than us and ignored everything Steve cast at them.

Monday – Spent the day getting tackle ready for tonight’s eel guiding session as well as my trip to the river Wye later in the week. The weathers hot and humid and l was really looking forward to a night on a new venue targeting eels. Regular Mel Smethurst was my guest who was hoping to increase his personal best eel of 2lbs 7oz. Easier said than done as eel fishing can be extremely unpredictable and venturing onto a lake that’s never been targeted was risky business  yet as darkness fell the runs started. If you want to find out how we faired then read all about it on my blog page.

Tuesday – Leaving the lake at 6am it was home for a few hours sleep before heading to Worcester to catch up with good friend Chris ‘The Pons’ Ponsford. I was looking forward to a quick fish on the Wye but time was pushing so we took a stroll around his Syndicate Lake, talked about fishing and l brushed up on the tactics for the following days TCF feature. Keep an eye out in your newsagents for this.

Wednesday – Up at 5am l drove to Hereford and dropped, literally, into a swim at the top of the Breinton stretch. Luckily l had taken a Korum accessory chair on which l could fix my rod rests, without this l would have struggled to get comfortable due to the rocky nature of the river. I didn’t quite know what to expect, however after a few quality dace the quiver-tip dropped back and started to rattle and my first Wye barbell was hooked. Christ they fight and had me in all sorts of trouble, however after a few minutes coaxing it out of several streamer weed beds managed to drop it in the net, not big, around 5lb but hugely rewarding. It was then a fish a cast and come 10am l had another five barbel plus a few chub in the net as well as a good perch. The action then stopped as the sun shone and when the camera crew arrived the swim was almost dead, yet perseverance created a few more chances, not from barbell but the occasional chub. It was a great day and a learning curve and those dace have really fired my imagination and l will be back in the winter for some serious float fishing action.
Thursday – The day was spent cleaning tackle before heading to south west London to appear on the ‘Tight Lines’ Show.
Friday – Spent the morning juggling my finance so l could pay the tax bill, then headed to Johnson’s Lake on the Godalming ticket who had kindly sent me a complimentary ticket. Fishing a 15ft Carbon-Active rod along with the pin l dropped a small pole float off the tip, fed Sonubaits Supercrush Green and fished an 8mm Tigerfish pellet on the hook to take a dozen crucians, including five three pounders, the best 3lb 6oz along with the odd tench and small carp. Why have l been fishing Harris for so long!

Saturday – Off to a cider fair but as l have a wedding on Sunday I’ve been told lm driving, joy!
