I’ve managed to arrange a night on Mill Farm Fishery to complete a feature so Alan Stagg and myself headed south not quite knowing what to expect. As the fishery doesn’t get night fished we were expecting to have a red-letter day but as dusk descended the lake died and not one silver bream showed on the specimen lake, however l was kept active with carp and Alan next door with eels. At first light we moved to Mill Pond and straight away started catching silvers, the best falling to Alan at 2lb 1oz.

Thursday l dropped into Marsh Farm after work arriving at around 9pm. Dropping into peg 3 next door to Alan, it was more of a case of seeing if the crucians were up for it, and shortly after dusk my question was answered. With these bright warm days l have always found that you get a couple of hours of heavy feeding after dark, and over the course of the next three hours took seven crucians, the best 3lb 2oz along with four small tench. Alan managed four crucians to 3lb 7oz. All our fish came on Sonubaits 8mm original S-Pellets fished over a good helping of Sonubaits Supercrush Green.

Due to my success the previous evening and still suffering from a heavy cold, I headed back to Marsh, however the wind had changed and the lake seemed a different place. After three moves l finally managed a bite, albeit from a tench. What a difference a day makes, although more to the point what an effect a changing wind has on a lake!
