At this time of year I like to target Woodlands View in Worcestershire using a deadly combo of Sonubaits Red Liquid Dye and Sonubaits Expander pellets. My last four results have been two match wins and two seconds - so I don't think you can argue with how effective these baits have been.
But for a reason I have not been able to fathom, the fish at this venue do seem to show a marked preference for red baits in April and early May.
A few years ago, anglers using red-dyed luncheon meat were taking the place apart, and I took this on by deciding to pep up my red Sonu Competition Expanders by adding Sonu Red Liquid dye.
Here's how I do it. The night before a match I will take half a pint of 6mm expanders and split them in half. half will be pumped with water and the other half with water and a dash of Sonu CSL liquid for extra flavour.
I will tip both lots of pellets into bait tubs and then add two teaspoonfuls of red liquid dye to each tub. These will be left overnight before being taken to the match. The dye just gives the pellets a really nice rich, red colour and it all then depends on what the fish want on the day - as to whether it is the standard fishmeal pellets or the ones with the added zing created by pumping them with CSL.
