With Half term now with us and me having Monday off work, Jake my son and I headed off to Mid Kent Fisheries Blue Lagoon lake for a nights Tench fishing.

We arrived Sunday afternoon and set about making up some groundbait, on this occasion a bag of Sonu’s new Tigerfish.  This if over wetted makes a nice sticky groundbait to which we were able to add plenty of feed pellets and a tin of corn without it breaking up.  Once made up we put out with a baitpult all 30 balls to a clear area around 30 yrds out.

The afternoon was hot, surprisingly into the 20s, amazing for the start of April.  With the sun beating down we were not expecting any action until the evening and overnight.  So time was spent preparing, making up stockings of pellets and stick mixes, tying rigs and getting ready for dark by making sure everything that was needed was to hand.
 
Sure enough as darkness fell the liners started as the lakes bream and tench population found our baited area and soon enough the first tench of the night graced the bank.  By alternating between small 10mm pop ups and two bits of corn on the hair we managed to keep the bites coming.  By midnight we were both tired and wound in until morning when we were up at 5:30 to find the swim fizzing up nicely.  Another couple of hours of catching ensued.  I think our total for the night was around a dozen tench and three bream, great sport indeed and a pleasant break from the Carp fishing for me.
