spacer Winning Ways With The Pellet Waggler   18 AUGUST 2008
spacer spacer spacer

In high summer there's no doubt that the pellet waggler can be a devastating method - and Sonu Baits' Fin Perfect Feed pellets are ideal for the job.

I've spent a lot of time practising my pellet waggler skills in recent years, and it paid off to good effect on a recent Super League round that I fished with my team, Starlets, at Gold Valley.
I drew a peg on Gold Lake and carp were the name of the game.
I elected to set up a 13 foot Preston Innovations Sentient Power float rod, with an 8 gramme unloaded Preston pellet waggler.
I'd loaded some 5lb Korum reel line onto my reel and the rig was finished off with a 0.19mm Preston Powerline hooklength, with a hair-rigged Korum pellet band to a size 16 PR36 hook. The hook pellet was an 8mm size.
Usually with the pellet waggler, the way to go about it is to cast, catapult a few pellets out to the float, wait and if no bite materialises then catapult a few just short and give the reel handle a couple of turns to drag the hook pellet into the loose offerings.
On the day of this match, that approach didn't work, and I caught best by catapulting half-a-dozen 8mm pellets out, then casting the float into them. If the float did not go under within 15 seconds, I had to reel in and repeat the process.
It was a technique that brought me 112lb of carp for an overall win.
