Sonubaits fans must try the firm’s latest great groundbait, Sonu Chocolate-Fish, which I used in a recent silver fish match to net second place with a tidy 29lb haul of skimmers.
The match was part of the Steve Gardner Silver Fish League, staged at Sumners Laker at Horsham, Sussex.
The peg I drew was five to six feet deep at 14.5 metres and I rigged up my Preston Innovations The One pole with a number Five Preston Slip Original elastic through the top three. The rig featured a 4 x 14 Preston PB8 pole float and I positioned a bulk of number nine shot 25 cms above my single no 10 dropper, which was positioned 15 cms above the hook, a PR32 in a size 20.
I mixed the Sonubaits Chocolate-Fish quite damp and fed two satsuma-sized balls in one spot and just one in another peg, loose feeding a few 4mm Fin Perfect expanders over the top through my cadpot. Those balls of groundbait also contained a few 2mm Sonu Fin Perfect micro pellets, softened down.
I caught a number of skimmers, which averaged 12 oz to 1lb, although they did run up to 1lb 12oz. If a swim slowed down I re-fed with a small nugget of the Chocolate-fish groundbait and it drew the skimmers back for another feed.
The Sonu Chocolate-Fish contains a good quantity of the ingredients in the mega-successful F1 groundbait from Sonu, but it also has a lovely sweet chocolatey aroma.
To further field test it, I mixed some up and fished it through a small cage feeder at Gold Valley Lakes a few days later on another match and I had 15lb of skimmers, so I can say that it certainly works and is versatile, too for float or feeder work. Check it out in the shops this spring and try it, I'm sure you'll love it.
