I have had a superb month in June which culminated in me achieving an ambition I have been chasing for 15 years - qualification for the Fish-O-Mania Final...and it was Sonubaits S-Pellet Groundbait which did all the damage!
A Fish-O qualifier was being staged at Woodlands Thirsk fishery - and to say I was frustrated at the fact I was 20th reserve would be a massive understatement.
However, I turned up on the morning and to my delight discovered that a number of anglers who had been allocated tickets had not turned up, so I was allowed to fish.
I drew a decent peg in the middle of the back straight on Skylark Pool. It was a very windy day so I decided to set up two rods, a bomb rod and a Method feeder rod.
I kicked off with pellets moulded around a Method feeder using the fishery's own 2mm micro pellets, as per the rules.
But then I saw two anglers each catch a carp apiece using paste on the hook, and experience has taught me that when carp are having paste, it means they want groundbait, so I mixed up a bag of S Pellet groundbait and started to fish it on a Method feeder, with a 6mm Sonu BAits Fin Perfect feed pellet, banded on a PR36 size 16 hook, tied to 0.15mm diameter Preston Innovations Powerline.
To cut a long story short, I caught 26 carp for a winning weight of 149lb 12oz. With the Fish-O-Mania final due to be fished at Cudmore, I was ecstatic. Watch this space for details off how I performed in the big final!
