BCSG member Simon Hartop was brought up surrounded by specimen hunting and match fishing from an early age.
His father was a member of the notorious Coventry Specimen Group and they fished regularly with world champion Billy Lane. Simon cut his teeth on the midland canals and match fished for Coventry school boys before getting into specimen hunting. He has written for a lot of angling publications and is a contributor to a forthcoming book. This year Simon won the prestigious Sonubaits Carp Cup and hopes to win the Drennan cup some day after receiving several awards last year. Although Simon's favourite fish are carp, he fishes for all species dependant on the time of year. A lot of his fishing is spent on the river Thames and its' tributaries where he has taken most of his biggest fish, the rest is spent on quiet or undisturbed streams and pits.
